“Interview Room” A tableau vivant made up in a typically bourgeois interior, a rustling noise and the minimalist movements of a man and a woman. These elements are related to each other without being attuned; three forms of expression striving for dominance. The film depicts a physical but wordless opposition that tends towards motionlessness, an image of the human and inanimate need for space. The videos that result from my collaboration with Chris Baaten present personal identity as an arena vacated by self; rather than personality, the environment determines events and what the image communicates. The male/female relationship becomes the setting, a living sculpture cut loose from all moorings. 2006 / 4.00 min / Marianne Theunissen & Chris Baaten |
